DREAMING OF WARSAW
This is a unique collection of ceramic miniature replicas of five modernist
buildings dating back to communist Poland. The miniature buildings bear
graphics alluding to their original structures.

What inspired me to create the DREAMING OF WARSAW collection?

Till I was 18 I lived in the very heart of Wrsaw, in a house at the corner of Emilii
Plater Street and Jerozolimskie Avenue. I remember buildings like Sezam,
Skarpa Cinema, Central Station, Rotunda or Supersam, as always being part
of the landscape. They have become an inherent part of each Varsovian’s life.
So I wished to show how fascinating everyday Warsaw can be.

Another source of inspiration was the fear that those interesting buildings
may disappear one day. Two of them no longer exist: Skarpa Cinema and
Supersam. Considering the unique structure and form of Supersam, many
people and organiztions tried hard to enter it in the register of historical monu-
ments. When their efforts failed it was no longer possible to protect Supersam
from demolition. I wanted to make Varovians reflect on the fact that those
symbols of the city landscape may disappear irretrievably.

Still another source of inspiration was my sentiment for Warsaw and its archi-
tecture of the communist times. I know that many people feel the same. Now,
by having a miniature building of those times they may express their liking for
the building and for Warsaw.
